Leo’s kids taekwondo sparring match in Catskills, NY. This was Leo’s first light head contact taekwondo sparring match. He was very nervous and for good reason. Leo joined his kids taekwondo sparring team mid July of 2021. He only had a few months to learn the taekwondo sparring rules and to improve his taekwondo technique.
Leo is wearing the blue taekwondo hogu. The child sparring competitor in the red hogu seemed a bit better than Leo but was unable to kick Leo’s head. Leo is tall for his age. Leo’s leg flexibility gave him the advantage that day as you will see in the sparring match video below. Red was a good kick blocker and counter kicker. It was a tough kids taekwondo sparring match for Leo but he won!

Kids Taekwondo Tournament Information
At the time Leo weighed about 55 lbs and was age 6, almost 7 years old. Leo was sparring as a taekwondo blue belt, however, his taekwondo class rank was a yellow belt. The competitor is a blue-red belt. They were competing in the 6-7 Years Old Olympic Sparring Youth Featherweight division. Both taekwondo sparring competitors are most likely age 7 at the end of 2021.
The Catskills Taekwondo Championship tournament was held at the Resorts World Catskills Casino and Resort in Monticello, NY. Team Young TKD and FastKix Taekwondo hosted the tournament. This was an AAU registered tournament. The tournament was held on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
