Leo’s kids taekwondo sparring fight in Riverdale, NY. This was Leo’s first ever taekwondo sparring tournament. He did a great job against a more experienced kid and won during overtime. Leo joined his kids taekwondo sparring team mid July of 2021. He only had a few months to learn the rules and to improve his taekwondo technique.
Leo is the boy wearing red. The competitor in blue continuously tried to push Leo backwards and out of bounds to gain an advantage. Leo practiced against this style of taekwondo fighting often so he was prepared for such a strategy. Notice how Leo was able to side-step the boy in blue before he was able to strike.

Kids Taekwondo Tournament Information
At the time Leo weighed about 55 lbs and was age 6, almost 7 years old. Leo was sparring as a taekwondo blue belt. The competitor is a red belt. They were competing in the kids 6 to 7 years old Olympic Sparring Youth Featherweight division. Both boys are most likely age 7 at the end of 2021.
The 2021 New York Open Taekwondo Championships was held at The Peter Jay Sharp Athletic Center at College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY. YH Park Taekwondo Academy hosted the tournament. This was a World Taekwondo (WT) and Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) supported tournament. The tournament was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021.
